Thanksgiving - It doesn't matter what you eat! Just Be.

My last post was all about teaching your kids not to be snobby around where and how they spend their Thanksgiving.  To ensure that they are just happy to be among friends and family and even just their own family.

For us, this picture solidifies that for me.  Every year from the past 35 years as I've known it, my family has always made traditional cinnamon rolls.  They don't look anything like this!  I'd take a picture for you, but I didn't make them this year.

Honestly, when I look at this picture, these do not look appetizing in the least!! They were OK, but not as good as the recipe I learned from my mom that was passed down to her.  The homemade cinnamon rolls have gotten a little "easier" over the years as Pillsbury Hot Roll mix was invented.  (Tastes exactly like the homemade recipe for some reason.  Psst. Don't tell anyone!!!)  But of course when I went to the grocery store they did not have it.  It was Monday night and I was not about to drive around to grocery store after grocery store (especially since we don't even have one by our house) looking for this Hot Roll Mix.

I also didn't have the patience or time now to make them completely by scratch.  It was too late now and I had procrastinated too much.  The Hot Roll Mix is a lifesaver because all the dry ingredients are already mixed into the flour.  But I had no such luck finding this item and was thinking "Oh, now what?!!".

So, I thought about my last log post.....

And thought to myself.  I can be flexible!!!  Haven't I said this about myself before?  Yes, I have, so I will follow up with what I say.

Cinnamon Rolls are the tradition, and they don't have to be perfect!  If all else failed, we could have had Cinnamon Toast and it would have smelled just as good and been OK.  But, I did just want a darn cinnamon roll on Thanksgiving morning regardless of where it came from.  So, I walked right over to the refrigerated section and pulled out two packages of cinnamon rolls and threw them in the cart.  Walla!!!!

They don't look pretty, they don't taste as good, but the best part was, my husband was able to cook them in the oven with the kids and let me sleep in.  I awoke to the smell of hot, "fresh" cinnamon rolls and my Thanksgiving memories started off with a smile.

Remember, it doesn't matter what you eat.  It doesn't matter if it's the traditional Thanksgiving dish.  Just take deep breaths, enjoy the day and know to Just Be.  And you will be happy.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!!!
