I'm sitting here typing thinking of all the wonderful ways I can approach 2012 to ensure it was a better year than 2011, and I'm reminded of Paula Deen. I had no idea who Paula Deen was until three years ago when she got hit in the face with a frozen ham. You can tell how much I cook if I didn't know who Paula Deen was.
I love this video just from the mere fact that she say's "Oh, I didn't know it was going to be thrown." How insightful is that little comment? How can I prepare myself for 2012 when I don't know what's going to be thrown at me? I can kinda prepare, but what's the point in preparing too much? I still might get hit in the face with a frozen ham!
I keep going back to this topic because I think I haven't fully grasped it yet. It just keeps popping up in my brain. Sorry for the redundancy! You are suppose to teach what you need to learn. At least that's what I heard long ago and it seems pretty truthful. Makes a lot of sense. So I guess I'm trying to teach/learn this topic of "keep moving" basically.
Paula Dean keeps showing up everywhere lately, too! Today I saw her a magazine at Sears. The other day I saw her on the Oprah Life Class (yes, I watch that show). She was talking about how she doesn't believe things happen for a reason and just to follow your bliss and let the cookies crumble basically but eat the chocolate chips. I just made that up. She didn't say that, but it sounded fitting.
Maybe she's right. Maybe Paula Dean is one smart lady, just because she doesn't know what's going to be thrown her way, but she just learns how to "keep moving" anyway. Her parents died when she was very young, she suffered from a debilitating disease called agoraphobia where she had panic attacks just thinking of going outside or being around people. She had her struggles in love, her ups and downs and all she knew how to do was to make sandwiches. She's actually quite interesting.
Ahh, follow your bliss and so understanding shall come.
So, as I think of 2012, I definitely have my goal list. But I will take a lesson from Paula Dean and continue to teach/learn the following:
- Go with the unexpected
- Learn from your past, but don't forget it. (I had those confused for a while)
- Forget planning too much
- Be weary of flying hams
- Wear catchers mitt when possible
- Don't put meaning into things that don't have meaning
- Do what you know and do it well (even if it's just making sandwiches)
- Have your goals, but don't put too much emphasis on what didn't happen. (In fact, I was reading my goal list from 2010 and it said start a blog. I had no idea that was even on my goal list, but somehow my subconscious mind made it happen in 2011. Kinda weird, but very neat. I didn't even think about it, it just happened one day when I was ready).
So, put your catchers mitts on everyone! Get ready for 2012 and don't let a ham hit you in the face. And if it does shrug it off and say you'll take a lesson from Paula Deen and "keep moving". Make a sandwich if you want to. Do what you know how to do well.
Congrats to your New Year! Have some champaign and toast to what you do not know!
